Abstract

This article's attempt is to reveal the meanings of the concept of sovereignty, developed since J. Bodin, until C. Schmitt. Despite the complexity and the diversity of opinions regarding sovereignty, all the thinkers analyzed in this context assume the fact that they understand this concept as an essential attribute of the state. In the same time, the importance of sovereignty derives not only from a certain theory of state, but also from the theories of international relations which subscribe to the classical meanings of this concept.
