Abstract

In this paper, I focus on the philosophical input in the field of event management. Discussing the contribution of Donald Getz from his Event Studies. Theory, Research and Policy for Planned Events, I try to clarify the main points concerning the necessity of using philosophical tools in the work of event organizing, but also in the academic study of events. First, the philosophical analysis of an event gives the researcher consistent clues about the meaning, the experiences, the values and the societal dynamics related to that event. Second, each particular domain (phenomenology, hermeneutics, aesthetics, ethics, epistemology and philosophy of science, rhetorics) offers valuable content in the effort of in-depth understanding of events.
