Abstract

The new discoveries in advanced physics and astrophysics have led to the creation of a new kind of cosmology, one that uses the mathematical language to describe the world. However, the consequences of this process are complex: the objects of astrophysics tend to be abstract, almost inexistent in the proper sense of the word, and that makes the scientific discourse liable to be called into question by the philosophy of language, and especially by the theories of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who had always argued that it is impossible to develop a precise (i.e. scientific) exposition regarding abstract, unobservable, entities, that this kind of discourse can only be metaphorical, allegorical in nature, and therefore is reserved to areas as ethics, esthetics. All these tend to change today, when the scientific language of advanced astrophysics has to use, itself, a more and more symbolic, conventional way to describe the universe as a whole. Today, these two worlds collide.
